Children of a Lesser God
Tickets for the Upper School performance of Children of a Lesser God, a play by Mark Medoff, are available now, for $15, at through Brown Paper Tickets: http://brownpapertickets.com/.
The play, published in 1980, focuses on the conflicted professional and romantic relationship between teacher James Leeds and his hearing-impaired former student, Sarah Norman. Children of a Lesser God is rated PG-13 for adult themes and strong language. An American Sign Language interpreter will be available for both of the Saturday performances.
This show has a dual cast, so please check each performance date and cast list on Brown Paper Tickets before purchasing your tickets.
Performances of Children of a Lesser God will be held on Thursday, October 29 (7:30 p.m., red cast), Friday, October 30 (7:30 p.m., blue cast), Saturday, October 31 (1 p.m., red cast; 4 p.m., blue cast), and on Sunday, November 1 (1 p.m., red cast; 4 p.m., blue cast).

This show is a great testimony to the talents of our children and the creative leadership of Nate Wheeler and Darcy Rice. Although the cast is small, the emotional impact is huge! Plan to see it.
Saw the red cast’s performance last night and was completely blown away, not just by the quality of the show in general, but the performances given by everyone were really amazing.
Everyone, but especially the two leading roles, delivered all of their lines while using sign language. As if that weren’t amazing enough, the fact that there was just so much dialogue and done at times so fast and furious with emotion, all the while signing…..wow…. We’re talking, a 1 hr. 45 min. of memorized lines and hands flying!… Speaking a role would be one thing, but to do it while signing in such a way as to convince the audience that it is your second-nature…that you’ve done it forever….and that’s the actors who spoke and signed….wait till you see how Melody conveys her every feeling without speaking at all! Go see the show.
While it’d be inappropriate for lower school students, I would love to take my MS student over the weekend (also because I’d like to see the blue cast as well). You all did an awesome job! You should be SO proud.
