St. Margaret’s Head Tennis Coach, Rick Trager, has been named The Orange County Register Coach of the Year.

Coach Trager has been coaching for more than 25 years at the collegiate and high school level, and he began coaching at St. Margaret’s in 2007. In the spring, he coached the boys tennis team, and he began coaching the girls tennis team in the fall of 2007. He made an immediate impact on the program, guiding the girls to the CIF semifinals. In his second season, he led the team to their first league title since 2005, with a huge victory over Sage Hill in the CIF finals, bringing him his first CIF Championship. The Tartans finished the 2007 season 25-0. He was also named back-to-back Academy League Coach of the Year.

This year, the girls tennis team again won a league title under Coach Trager’s leadership, beating Rio Mesa 12-6 to win back-to-back CIF Championships, which was a fitting culmination to a two-year journey with a 50-0 record.

Coach Trager was not the only Tartan to receive county recognition; Hayley Miller, grade 12, was selected Third Team All-County, and Tiffany Cheng, grade 10, Hannah Hess, grade 11, Melanie Hess, grade 12, and Zoe Oedekerk, grade 9, received Honorable Mention. Congratulations, Coach Trager, on this wonderful accomplishment!
