HR4Q0028Headmaster Marcus D. Hurlbut and Head Coach Rod Baltau were presented with a Certificate of Recognition from the City of San Juan Capistrano by the Mayor of San Juan Capistrano, the Honorable Dr. Londres Uso on Tuesday, during a meeting of the San Juan Capistrano City Council.

The certificate was presented in recognition of the Tartan football team’s four back-to-back CIF Championships (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009); the longest winning streak in Orange County history, 44-0 (2006-2009); and because of their “drive, talent, and sportsmanship.” After the presentation, Mayor Uso and the San Juan Capistrano City Council members posed for a photograph of this historic moment with Headmaster Hurlbut, Coach Baltau, Assistant Athletic Director Mel Taylor, and Tartan Varsity Football Team members.

Director of Athletics Susie Maga says of the City’s recognition, “I am once again so proud of our team for their accomplishments and how they represent the City of San Juan Capistrano and this great school.”

HR4Q0019Mayor Uso, who is also an alumni parent (Lonnie Uso, Class of 1989), had come to St. Margaret’s in January to congratulate the team and the school as a whole, along with California State Senator Mimi Walters; The Right Reverend J. Jon Bruno, Bishop Diocesan of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles and Chairman of the Board of Trustees; and a representative from United States Congressman Ken Calvert’s office. During the “four-peat” celebration, Mayor Uso congratulated the team and St. Margaret’s, saying that being invited to celebrate historic Tartan athletic achievements “is becoming a habit—a really good habit.” He told the football players, “I am so proud of what you have done. You have brought fame to this little city. We have the mission, we have the swallows, and we have the Tartans.”
